Customer's Problem
To optimize packaging and shipping efficiency, this manufacturer utilized relatively tall Bulk Bags (35" x 35" x 72" tall). The problem encountered using tall bulk bags however, was that the final packages were leaning, buckling, and unstable. Even when some of the bags seemed in relatively good condition when they were loaded on the truck, they often arrived at the end users plant in terrible condition; the bags were bulked over and difficult to handle. Customer complaints prompted an investigation to find a way to correct the problem.

Control and Metering Application Solution
The Model B Filling Machine was the perfect solution to this common problem. The Model B Filling Machine has a hang weighing system. Not only is it more accurate than the four point systems having to weigh the entire machine, but it enables us to use the advantages of hang filling as well. Hang filling is important since it allows the bag to stretch with the weight of the ingredient as it is being filled. The bag is also automatically centered since the bottom doesn't have to rest on a pallet.

Application Challenges and Their Solution
It is a common misconception that solely changing the bag design can solve poor Bulk Bag packages. Although it is important to have the right bag for a given ingredient and application, there is no substitution for proper filling methods and equipment. Especially when filling taller bags, hang filling and good densification technique is essential.

Why The Customer Chose Control and Metering
The result of the filling test at Control and Metering's facility was enough to convince the customer that 'hang filling' and vibration with the cone densification table produced a far superior package. The filled bag was returned to the customers warehouse to ensure it remained stable during shipment. The package arrived in excellent condition.
